Many Congratulations to Dina from our accountants Wentworths for completing Women V Cancer Ride the Night 2015 in just under 7 hours! No mean feat given the enormity of the challenge – a 100 km cycle through the night from Royal Windsor Racecourse to London and back, all in aid of three UK cancer charities: Breast Cancer Care, Ovarian Cancer Action and Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust!
We were intrigued to know what had motivated Dina to undertake such a challenge – here’s a snapshot!
Q: What or who inspired you to undertake the challenge of riding 100k from Windsor to London and back?
A: I was inspired by a friend who had ridden for the same charity along the Great Wall of China last year and have also known many women who have been treated for breast cancer and cervical cancer. It meant a lot to be able to give something back to these worthwhile charities.
Q:What training and preparation did you do?
A:I started riding back in January, gradually increasing the ride intensity every weekend and riding shorter distances in the week
A: I completed it in 7 hours.
Q:Did you achieve your target time?
A: Yes & I was really happy with the time, especially as it was raining!
Q:How much did you raise? Did this exceed your expectations?
Q: What was the best thing about the night?
A: The best thing about the experience was the generosity of the volunteers, who provided well needed refreshments along the route. One man I spoke to was giving out cake, he wanted to get involved as his wife was participating in the ride. There was such great camaraderie throughout the night!
Q: What was the worst thing about the night?
A: Just the rain!
Q: How did you feel after you accomplished the ride, I believe you got back at 5am?
A: Chuffed & actually quite emotional, we had a few people at the finish cheering us in!
Finally, would you do it again?? Yes!!
Dina took part with her sister and friends – if you feel inspired why not enter next year’s Ride the Night 2016?
